195 countries’ culinary delights in the capital

A to Z World Food London is a blog recording Len and Alf’s culinary odyssey around London’s international food scene. Born in 2021 during the pandemic when foreign travel was restricted, going on this ‘journey’ was the next best thing to visiting far-off lands and sating our wanderlust (and greed!).

There are around 195 nations and principalities on this planet, with at least one country for 25 of the letters in the Latin alphabet (we’re counting Wales for ‘W’). From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, by way of Norway, Oman and Venezuela, we reckoned we could find at least one establishment in London selling most of these countries’ respective food.

There’s only really one rule for the restaurants we choose: they must specialise in one particular country’s cuisine. For example, once we get onto Kenya, we only want to eat authentic Kenyan food cooked by Kenyans in a Kenyan restaurant – not general ‘African’ food where you might find one Kenyan dish on the menu. Same goes for Indian, Serbian, American, Colombian or anything else.

This blog is our record of this adventure.

Keep checking back

We’ve got close to 200 countries’ cuisine to work through (plus any new ones that get created) so this is going to take a while. Check back in on this blog from time to time for reviews of the food, drink and adventures we have around this great global city!
